Congratulations to Inspire4Nature fellow Marie-Morgane Rouyer for having obtained a PhD fellowship at the GAIA Doctoral School of the University of Montpellier!

Her PhD project will focus on examining the effectiveness of Marine Protected Areas at conserving migratory seabirds across the Atlantic Ocean. It is in direct continuity of her 23-month Inspire4Nature project.

Marie-Morgane will be based at the Center for Functional and Evolutionary Ecology in Montpellier (a Joint Research Unit of the CNRS and the University of Montpellier), and will continue to work in collaboration with BirdLife International and the UN Environment World Conservation Monitoring Centre, UNEP-WCMC, as well as with the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.

We wish her all the best in this new stage of her career!

Today we bid farewell to Pauline Roger as European Project Manager of Inspire4Nature. Pauline joined the project four years ago and her professionalism and dedication have been fundamental to making the project run smoothly.

Pauline came to us with a Master degree in European studies, with specialisation in European policies and programmes, from the University of Aix-Marseille. She cares deeply about biodiversity protection and animal welfare, having done a professional internship in Brussels in an advocacy group for animals, where she worked with European institutions. She is also interested in human sciences and ethology.

Pauline was responsible for coordinating the exchanges within the Consortium and facilitating the consortium’s overall management in conformity with the Grant Agreement and the Consortium Agreement. These responsibilities included a wide set of tasks related to the organisational, administrative, financial and legal management of the project. She also played a major role in the project communication actions.

We wish Pauline all the very best in her future projects!

Inspire4Nature welcomes WCMC Europe as a new Partner!

WCMC Europe is a newly established organisation, based in Brussels, Belgium. As a not-for-profit organisation, it promotes for public benefit the conservation, protection, enhancement and support of nature and natural resources worldwide. Three Inspire4Nature fellows – Shawn Dove, Gonzalo Albaladejo, Joe Kelly – attended the 20th Student Conference on Conservation Science, in Cambridge, and met a very special guest: Sir David Attenborough!

The David Attenborough Building (DAB), at the Department of Zoology of the University of Cambridge, is home to the Cambridge Conservation Initiative, the hub of the largest cluster of conservation organisations in the world. Most of the Inspire4Nature fellows will spend a few months at the DAB, in secondments to BirdLife International, UN Environment WCMC and IUCN.

Inspire4Nature Scientific Coordinator, Ana Rodrigues, chaired the Questions & Answers session in which conference delegated put their questions directly to Sir David.

We are delighted to welcome 15 very bright young researchers as PhD fellows in the Inspire4Nature project! We are looking forward to meeting the entire team in our first General Assembly at the end of October.

Each PhD project is a collaboration between an academic institution (a research centre or university, where the student will be based) and at least one leading international biodiversity conservation organisation (International Union for Conservation of Nature, BirdLife International, UNEP-World Conservation Monitoring Centre, Zoological Society of London), where students will spend 6-10 months in secondment).

Inspire4Nature is more than a collection of 15 great PhDs! It’s a broader training programme that will give you hands-on experience in major conservation tools (IUCN Red List, Key Biodiversity Areas) as well as practice in communicating about science and biodiversity to a diverse audience.
